OADE Awards

It appears that new members may not be aware, and veteran members may have forgotten, that OADE has established seven awards to honor outstanding practitioners and friends of developmental education. These include Outstanding Alumna/us of a Developmental Education Program, Outstanding Developmental Educator, Outstanding Contribution to OADE by a Member, Outstanding Research or Publication Award, Bob Evans Award for Outstanding Service to Developmental Education in Ohio, Outstanding Developmental Program in Ohio, and Outstanding Contribution to Developmental Education by a Part-Time or Adjunct Professional. These awards are intended to honor those deserving of recognition and to establish OADE as a champion of worthwhile contributions to developmental education. Unfortunately, year after year, these awards are not presented because no one has been nominated.

In the past, members may have been reluctant to submit names for these awards because they required lengthy documentation.  Mindful of that, the Executive board has reduced the amount of documentation required to support a nomination, asking only that it clearly substantiate the qualifications of the nominee for a particular award (See the Members Almanac for specific requirements for each of the awards). Now there is no good reason not to nominate outstanding colleagues and friends of developmental education for the recognition they deserve.

Please take some time to submit a nomination and the necessary documentation (a group of members may cooperate to gather the material), so the Awards Committee my present several names to the Executive Board for awards to be presented at the 2007 Fall Conference. Thank you!

The deadline for nominations is September 1, 2007. Nominations and supporting materials should be submitted to:

Elaine Shively, KSU-Trumbull Campus,

4313 Mahoning Ave NW,

Warren, OH 44483-1998
