Committee reports
Budget and Finance—Celeste
- Celeste also sent a breakdown of the budgets for each of
the time periods listed above.
- Each reflected any changes made or expenses incurred.
- Julia inquired whether the advertisement for journal
submissions should be under Publicity or under Journal.
- Another question raised regarded how much an
out-of-state individual should be charged for a copy of the journal. Julia
was asked this recently.
Conference—Julia
- Julia spoke of how nice the Conference Center at North
Point near Polaris is. The food is buffet-style. The rooms are spacious.
The Conference Center was originally built for training by Nationwide.
There’s a park next door for walking, a pond for fishing, and a shuttle
service to Polaris Mall.
- An email from Kathy was shared that listed prices for
North Point lodging and meals. The fees are as follows: an individual
driving in: $60.00, a single room: $199.00, and a double room: $169.00 per
person. (These are per day and include breakfast, lunch, and afternoon
snacks.)
- Marjorie noted how the ease of planning for North Point
would be eliminated. Her department’s concern is they will have fewer
attendees. At her school, presenters have half of their room rates paid.
Non-presenters have to pay these themselves. Her university pays
registration. She suggests, in the future, a survey might be sent out to find
out what members are looking for in terms of accommodations.
- Julia said the Call for Proposal form needs to mention
the sessions are expected to be an hour in length.
- We have five proposals so far. Julia said maybe Carter
should send a reminder email each month.
Constitution & By-Laws—Tracy
- This summer, Kathy plans to make sure approved changes
to Constitution and By-Laws have officially been made in writing and are
clearly stated. She will look through minutes dating back to 1996. Tracy has
offered to assist her.
Grants—Sally and David
- David Haiduc said he hasn’t received anything related to
grants at the present time. He also mentioned the growth of developmental
enrollments so far. The need, in his opinion, is not going to go away.
- He said developmental educators should make sure they’re
not just teaching to the test.
- David Haiduc also mentioned he’d like compile and
explore data regarding standardized/placement testing throughout the various
grade levels and look at possible predictions that can be made.
Information—Kathy
- Julia is going to email Kathy about where registration
should be sent.
Membership/Mentoring—Carter
- Carter sent a rough draft of the almanac, broken down by
institution.
- Julia and Becky commented on how nice and detailed it
is.
- It used to be organized alphabetically only.
Nominations & Awards—Brenna Michelis/Elaine
Shively
- Brenna sent word that we still need a candidate for
President-Elect; David Haiduc said he’ll ask some of his colleagues.
- Julia will ask Sally for any potential Bowling Green
candidates for the various offices
- We still need an Outstanding Program nomination.
Political Liaison—
- Julia reminded everyone that we still need a political
liaison.
Publications—Patty, journal; Marge, Newsletter
- We need to appoint someone to replace Elsie who
resigned.
- Julia shared a letter from Patrick Saxon, editor of
Research in Developmental Education. OADE members can order RIDE
newsletters at a special discounted rate. We’ll check with Celeste about
collecting the money.
- David Haiduc volunteered to read articles for the OADE
journal.
Publicity—needs to be assigned
Research—Lana & David
- Lana and David will be working on more surveys this
fall.
They plan to
put something together and present it to the board.
It will be
emailed out to everyone.
Archivist—Chuck
Technical
Consultant—
- Please email any submissions for the website to Tracy
Koski at
tkoski@cscc.edu. She will forward these on to Becca Seabolt.
Old
Business—
- The Institutional Membership fee will be $175.00.
- Julia mentioned this should be on the membership section
of the website. Final implementation needs to take place.
- David suggested having a contact person to whom we could
send all the OADE journals. He is going to email the information to Carter.
New
Business—
Meeting was adjourned at 12:20.
